In 2021, the New Jersey legislature considered Assembly Bill 5492, which would have required that Board of Trustee members of planned real estate developments attend training at the outset of the Board member’s term of office. Specifically, the training would need to be completed within 180 days following the start of the Board member’s term. The training would only need to be completed once if a Board member served more than one term. (Died)
In 2024, the New Jersey legislature considered Assembly Bill 2449, which would have required training of planned real estate development association board members. Under this bill, the Commissioner of Community Affairs would establish a program for the training of planned real estate development association members who are elected to serve on the executive boards of associations. At least three hours of training shall be mandatory on the part of a board member, which shall be completed no later than 180 days following the beginning of the term of office of the member. The commissioner would also have the authority to remove a board member who does not complete the required training. (Died)
